The EU for Good Governance Project supported the forum “Building Trust: Albania’s Path to the EU through Transparent Governance”, held on 13 December 2024, concluding the Integrity Week. The forum was addressed by the Minister of State for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption Adea Pirdeni, EU Ambassador to Albania Silvio Gonzato, Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj and the Commissioner for the Right to Information and Personal Data Protection, Besnik Dervishi, and the Prime Minister Edi Rama.
In his speech, the EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato emphasized the importance of integrity and transparency as fundamental pillars for building a just and sustainable society. He praised Albania for the steps taken in the fight against corruption, including risk analysis in public procurement and in the functioning of the cadastre. “Consistency and transparency are key to the success of these efforts…The EU will remain committed to Albania’s anti-corruption efforts.’ highlighted Ambassador Gonzato.
The forum also hosted two panels with key experts from the EU4GG project, Transparency International, academia, civil society, and the business community, exchanging European and International best practices with the aim to strengthen transparency and integrity in Albania’s public sector. Panel 1: “EU and International Perspectives”, focused on exploring European best practices in transparency, aligning with EU standards, and discussing their implementation in Albania. While, Panel 2: “The Foundation of Trust and Progress: Proactive Transparency”, focused on discussing on enhancing transparency practices.
